Bookstock Fund

Bookstock Fund

Detroit area adults get training in Microsoft Office Suite through The Hermelin Resource Center Better Job Opportunities class, paid for in part by proceeds from Bookstock.

The Bookstock Fund was created from the revenue of each year’s Bookstock sale and donations. Focused on enhancing literacy in Detroit and throughout Michigan, each year the Fund looks for community partners doing inspiring and life changing work on the individual, family, and organizational level.

Recently, the Bookstock Fund has supported book clubs, poetry slams, and classroom libraries in City Year classrooms, book clubs hosted in Brilliant Detroit homes, the Einstein Method literacy programs, and Remain in Touch – a program that records incarcerated parents reading  books that they can send home to their children, facilitating family literacy and long-distance communication.

In the past, the Bookstock Fund has partnered with organizations committed to promoting literacy in various ways.  These organizations and projects included building out the library at Earhart Elementary in Detroit; providing scholarships for students of the Wayne State University School of Library Sciences and University of Detroit Mercy; providing microgrants for Detroit Public School teachers through Teach for America; creating resources and access for book clubs hosted at Starfish and Mercy Literacy programs, and more.

Check back to this page for updates and details regarding the grants that the Bookstock Fund is proud to give to those in our community organizing access to and passion around reading and books, at home and at school.

We have gifted many students money to help in their studies through the WSU Bookstock Annual Scholars Fund. The students were all enrolled in the WSU School of Library and Information Science.

Donating Books to Non Profits!

Keeping in our tradition of passing books on to new people to enjoy, almost 100% of the remaining books after the sale are given away to non-profits and people with need of these books. Each new year, it’s a whole new sale!

Are you a non-profit organization that might benefit from our sale? Come and shop our low prices during the week when the stock is the best. Then, receive some of the remaining stock as a donation! Here’s how:

  1. Come to Laurel Park Place with a letterhead/501c3 document from your organization to select books on Monday, May 1st from 9:00 AM- 12:00 PM.
  2. Take as much as you can carry.
  3. Please bring your own boxes.

We are pleased to announce that we are donating our remaining stock to St Vincent de Paul.
